If Medicare has a seven-month initial enrollment period, why is it important for me to sign up before my birthday? |

It’s true, you have seven months to enroll in Medicare and not be penalized... |
|
The Initial Enrollment Period runs from three months before to three months after the month of the 65th birthday. If you need Medicare coverage to start the month of your birthday, you must enroll during the first three months of the Initial Enrollment Period. For example, if your birthday is in December, enroll during September, October, or November, and Medicare coverage will take effect December 1. The one exception to this rule is if your birthday falls on the first of any month. |
